Joe McLaughlin
for State Representative
Morrill Montville Liberty Lincolnville Searsmont Islesboro Appleton
Hello, I'm Joe McLaughlin, a proud Lincolnville native and a dedicated parent and young homeowner. Like many in our community, I'm navigating the challenges of escalating property taxes, rising grocery prices, and hefty utility bills. My mission is to amplify our voices in Augusta, bridging the gap between differing viewpoints to champion solutions that truly benefit the people of District 40. Let's work together for a brighter, more affordable future where our children can afford to live, and nobody has to fear losing their home!

Maine’s young people should be able to afford a home, in addition to their everyday living expenses such as gas and groceries. Let's reverse excessive fees, taxes and regulations and put the American Dream back within reach.

The legislature just repealed property tax relief for Mainers over 65, and removed a law limiting tax increases to income growth. I don't believe anyone should have to fear having their home taken away due to steep tax increases and in my opinion, at some point you deserve to be able to retire in peace. If I'm elected I'll fight to place reasonable restrictions on property taxes that will protect home ownership.

School spending has skyrocketed while education quality has plummeted; Maine is failing its students. Our children deserve a world class education, school options that fit the student, and teachers with the freedom to innovate.
-
We can protect the environment better if we take out the extremes. Political and financial agendas are being pushed as solutions which has led to ineffective and damaging policy. Soaring food, fuel and energy costs. Taxpayer money is subsidizing politically favored industries at the expense of small businesses, working families and now, the commercial development of Sears island. Let’s act like Americans and come together to create solutions while preserving our way of life.

I support the Second Amendment and understand its purpose. I strongly oppose the new 72hr waiting period to buy a gun in Maine.
